Prices 19/9/16

There’s a lot of talk of more and more chickpea acres failing this week. Asco took hold of a lot of crops around the border last week and the disease has been able to spread very, very quickly. Talking to one guy and he tells me a 1000ac field went from looking good to probably a 100% failure in the space of 10 days.
Washout values for chickpeas that were due to be delivered in the October period are still very firm, around $940 delivered Wee Waa / Narrabri. Bids for the Nov / Dec slot are coming in at $915 but there are more buyers for that slot around mid  to low $800 than currently above $900.

There is increasing interest from the Downs to Dubbo in new crop mung beans. Currently buyers are sitting on more area contracts for this time of year than they have ever had. Prices in India have improved a little as quality on the early mung and pigeon pea crop is not as good as hoped.

Also disappointing to see new crop durum bids lower today.  This is probably more to do with the rapid jump in the value of the Aussie dollar than anything durum related though. Quality in both the US and Canada continues to be well below what they had hoped to achieve and premiums continue to grow for the higher grade product in both locations.

There’s more financial market reports than grain market reports due out this week so the dollar may play more of role than anything by Friday.
