US wheat futures rallied on the back of reports weekend weather could slip below freezing as far south as Texas. So far this morning I can’t find any actual weather models to back up that media release but hey, let’s just let the punters run with it anyway.
Temperatures are expected to get cold across much of the hard and soft red winter wheat area’s in the US this weekend. Topeka KS, 11 > 4, Salina KS 7 > 2 on Sunday, Colby in NW KS 4 > -1 on Saturday, Enid OK 10 > 3 Sunday, Hays KS 5 > 1 Sunday. So the HRW belt is going to be miserable and yes maybe a light frost in places but unless it comes in much colder than current models are suggesting a major wipe-out is unlikely but keep your fingers crossed and let’s see what the new month brings on Monday.

The colder weather is going to be more along the western edge of the Midwest. Iowa temperatures, although expected to be unseasonably low, are going to be much warmer than Nebraska or Kansas but the central corn belt will also see rainfall through to around Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Initially the heavier falls are expected across eastern Kansas and Missouri but will become very heavy across Illinois as well by the beginning of the week so potentially plenty more support in this market tonight.
Conditions across the US spring wheat belt should improve enough to see good sowing progress over the next week or so.
