With a public holiday in the USA last night international market info is a bit thin on the ground this morning, unlike the frost which, in some parts of the state, is very thick on the ground.

The durum and canola belt of central Canada finally got some rainfall over the weekend. Falls were not huge, generally around the 20-30 mill mark but were heavier across the north where more canola is sown. This resulted in some slight weakness in the ICE canola futures contract. To counter this weakness we saw the Paris rapeseed Feb 17 contract actually rally €2.75 per tonne.
There is talk of reduced canola area across the FSU states this year, this will continue to support EU values.

The French winter wheat crop is about 70% headed, it’s a little behind the pace of last year. Early barley in the south of France will be in the bin in the next few weeks. French spring barley is just starting to put a head out. On a week to week rating both the EU wheat and barley crops were down a little but both crops are still generally in excellent condition.
Further east around the Black Sea spring crop sowing is progressing nicely with corn, sunflower and soybeans nearing 100% sown. Good rain continues to fall across many parts of the FSU making for ideal conditions for winter crop grain fill.
