Prices 25/10/16
Good quality durum wheat prices are sharply higher in central Saskatchewan. Up country values rose from $C750c/bu to roughly $C830c/bu in the last week. This is roughly C$305 / tonne delivered upcountry elevator. Australia has a both a quality and logistical advantage over central Canada so we could be seeing ex farm values for DR1 on the plains closer to $305 – $320 in the short term if the trade choose to reflect those premiums.
Desi chickpeas in central Canada have come off a little in recent days but are still bid to the grower around C$750 / tonne ex farm. Australia has a better logistical advantage with pulses too. Which, unfortunately, at the moment is simply exposing the local chickpea price for what it is, a trade / grower / trade washout price within the Australian shores.
Showers are expected to clear a little over the next couple of days across central Canada but return before the weekend and persist through much of next week. Temperatures will warm a little, which surprisingly may not help the Canadian farmer complete harvest. They are actually looking for very cold conditions to freeze the soil so it can support field traffic and to keep snow frozen as it passes through harvesters.
