Heat is back in the forecast for the US which saw grain futures values firmer across the board in overnight trade.
Corn is entering a crucial phase of development and heat is the last thing it needs at flowering.
Kansas is expected to see temperatures into the high 30s and into the low 40s over the next couple of days. The central and western corn belt is looking for maximums into the mid to high 30’s.
Rainfall in the next 7 days is expected to be east of the Mississippi and across the eastern and southern portions of the corn belt and down into the SE.
The spring and durum wheat belt in the NW of the US will see some of the drier conditions and will also see some considerable heat exacerbating the current drought and bringing the crop in quickly. We should start to see harvest results by the middle of next week. There are a lot of pictures on social media of baled spring wheat crops in the Dakota’s this summer.
Much of southern Europe is expected to remain hot and dry with Spain continuing to bake in the mid 30’s and low 40’s.
Rainfall is expected to be mostly around the Alps and across western Ukraine and Romania which are in the middle of wheat harvest at present. Russia is expected to remain dry and should see harvest pace pick up and potentially catch up to last year.
