9/2/22 Prices
Slight technical corrections lower in both Chicago corn and soybean futures were not reflected in US wheat futures. Wheat moved higher, bucking the trend in the row crops. All three grades of US wheat were firmer by the close, Minneapolis spring wheat futures gaining the most, the nearby contract there has put on 39.75c/bu (AUD$20.45) over the last three session.
The move in wheat futures in the US was reflected in cash prices at the port. PNW values for both HRWW and spring wheat were between AUD$3.00 an AUD$9.00 higher at the port. White wheat cash prices out of the PNW were not overlooked, gaining on average AUD$7.34 per tonne for a nearby sale. Locally we saw old crop track wheat prices rally about AUD$3.00 yesterday.
The weakness in Chicago soybeans rolled through to sharply lower nearby Paris rapeseed futures, shedding E24.75 (AUD$39.56). Outer month rapeseed futures were not hit as hard, the Feb 23 slot dropping E3.75 (AUD$6.00) on low volume.
Winnipeg canola futures were not immune, the May22 slot back C$11.30, but still closing above C$1000 per tonne. As with Paris futures the new crop values were not hit as hard, the Jan23 slot shedding C3.40 to close at C$839.90.
New crop track canola here yesterday closed at AUD$853 NTP Newcastle. Black Sea cash rapeseed prices have remained fairly stable this week while Canadian port prices have tended to reflect the move in underlying futures contracts at Winnipeg.
Cash prices at the port for both Argentine and US sorghum were a smidge higher overnight. Possibly more a function of currency.
