23/8/21 Prices
Cash bids for durum out of SE Saskatchewan still amaze me. There’s none of those pussy $10 or $20 dollar moves, they’ll leave those incremental moves for other grains like spring wheat or canola. No durum likes the big moves.
Last night 1CWAD13 cash bids out of SE Saskatchewan average an increase of C$65.24 for a December lift, taking the price to C$672.86 ex farm per tonne. Depending on end user location, Italy or Japan, and who knows what basis is to FOBing now, so using a very conservative C$100 to FOB. It would make DR1 equivalent to between AUD$870 and AUD$900 per tonne at an Aussie port.
Just to plant our feet back on the ground after reading that titbit we better have a look at what French durum was offered into Italy at last night and what that would roughly convert to at an Aussie port. That number would suggest a port price here close to AUD$600 – AUD$620. There was also durum offered into Egypt as high as US$497 C&F Egypt.
High protein milling wheat out of Germany was offered at E289 FOB. If this was to move to somewhere like China it would land there for about US$489, which in turn would convert to an Aussie port number of just under five hundred Australian peso’s.
Let’s have a look at what US white wheat out of the Pacific North West would roll into Japan for. Club White wheat, 10.5% protein, was flat at about US$11.70/bu port, so it comes in at just over AUD$600 Aussie port equivalent. For a reality check what about Argentine 12.5% bread wheat at US$316 up river to China. Even that comes back at roughly AUD$487 Aussie port equivalent.
