With harvest getting underway in the spring wheat and durum belt of N.America it’s only fair that the weather should now turn a little damp. Showers have pushed across much of the Canadian prairies and the Dakotas over the last seven days making harvest progress difficult. The weather map does predict some drier conditions for the week ahead, so expect to see more grain coming onto the market from that part of the world. With nearby prices strong producer selling is expected to be high.
Cash bids for both nearby delivered durum and spring wheat across SE Saskatchewan were lower in overnight trade. September durum slipped C$12.92 on average but is still trading well above C$700 per tonne ex farm.  The December slot was flat.
Still in SE Sask we see local canola bids there were firmer with a December slot picking up another C$13.92 per tonne to close the day with an average cash price of about C$885. The cash price for canola also reflected good moves higher in both ICE canola futures at Winnipeg and improvements in the Paris rapeseed contract.
Helping the general sentiment in oilseeds was the announcement that India will be importing around 1.2mt of soymeal this year. After strong lobbying by many of the Indian stock feed producers the government has agreed to import GM meal for the first time.

Turkey joins the list of buyers opening wheat tenders this week. Turkey picked up 245kt of feed barley last week and are now looking to buy 300kt of hard red milling wheat. Tunisia are looking for 100k of milling wheat and feed barley. Jordan and Taiwan are also in the market.
