Warmer, dry weather will allow much of the US plains to get started with harvest or finish up for those that have been going for a while. Spring wheat is coming off as far north as the Canadian border now and parts of the Saskatchewan durum belt have also got a little in the bin. Temperatures are expected to remain warm for the week ahead. Much of the Midwest climbing back into the mid 30’s for the week ahead. Rainfall will be generally to the south and east of the main corn and soybean districts and could become a nuisance for cotton in the USA.
Europe remains generally dry across much of France and West Germany. Poland, Romania, and the Slavic states have seen helpful falls while much of Spain also remains dry.
Hot dry weather across much of Russia will keep a rapid pace on for the last of the wheat and those looking to strip early corn. Temperatures are pushing into the high 30’s across much of the Volga Valley and around the Caspian Sea. Temperatures across eastern Ukraine are also into the mid 30’s.

We will find out tomorrow if the USDA have resolved their reporting issues for weekly export sales and shipments. The transition to the new reporting system does not appear to have been without any major issues. The trade relies on the US weekly data to cross check assumptions. Failure by the USDA to supply this data does leave a lot to speculation, something we could do without in this environment.

Wheat futures in the US found support against the trend lower in corn and soybean. News that a major silo structure at the Ukraine port of Mykolaiv has been destroyed had a few punters predicting the end of the grain corridor was near. The pictures from Ukraine were not that convincing.
