Nearby Chicago corn futures were again sharply lower in overnight trade. Wheat and soybeans failed to be influenced by corn and managed to close in the black. HRW futures were not as convincing closing fractionally either side of unchanged. Movement in the MGEX spring wheat futures almost mirrored HRW with fractional moves mostly lower. Interesting to not cash settled spring wheat was 13.25c/bu higher though.
May contracts will roll off the board over the weekend.
Paris rapeseed futures and ICE canola futures bounced nicely, following the lead in Chicago soybeans.
A dry weather outlook is likely to support both cash and futures for spring wheat and durum next week. The 7 day model for the Canadian Prairies and the US spring wheat belt is generally drier than required. Some rain is expected across eastern N.Dakota and MN but western ND and Montana and most of the Canadian durum belt are expected to remain dry.
The Volga Valley in southern Russia and much of the spring wheat country in Russia and Kazakhstan is also expected to be dry next week. Good rain is expected across much of Ukraine and central Russia helping wheat in those regions recover a little from larger than expected winter kill. The Russian spring wheat region is worth watching though as it has only seen 40% of normal spring rainfall to date. Europe should see useful falls across all major wheat producing regions next week, so no issues there at this stage. Argentina should see some light rain across much of the wheat country too, the Pampas possibly seeing 30mm.
