Higher closes across the major futures markets is a good way to start the day in the grain game. All three US wheat futures are higher, corn, soybeans and Canadian canola as well as Paris rapeseed, wheat and corn and also London feed wheat.
The AUD is a touch higher against the US dollar but should have little impact on local values today.

Some interesting articles on Canada out yesterday. It appears that the problems associated with fusarium in durum is finally projected to have an impact on sown area. Agrimoney quoted Canada’s Farm Ministry as predicting sown durum area back by as much as 15% in 2017. This could see year on year production fall by as much as 25%.
The area will not be set aside though and they expect to see increases in spring wheat area and canola. Around 8.5mha of canola is expected to be sown across the Canadian Prairies this year producing around 18.5mt of the oilseed. The Ministry expect the additional supplies of canola to have a small effect on values as generally world stocks of oilseeds is not high unlike wheat.

The Black Sea states are mixed with good snow cover protecting crops in the north while in the south of both the Ukraine and Russia reports are varied with some areas having some snow cover while others have not. Most expect to see some winter kill there in 2017.
