A public holiday in the USA will delay the release of their weekly crop progress report by one day, it’s due out tonight.
Over the last 7 days the US Midwest, and most location east of the Mississippi, have seen some good rain, 25mm to 75mm across Iowa, Missouri and the major cotton states. Eastern Kansas also saw some good falls, many expect the rain to be too late to help the hard red winter wheat crop improve, but the rain should go a long way to stopping a further decline in the conditions rating for eastern and central Kansas.
As for western Kansas, and much of south western Nebraska, there are many reports on social media confirming it’s the worst they have ever seen.
The forecast for the US is for light showers across Missouri and the cotton states along the Mississippi this week, and a possible storm across the panhandle.
Across the Atlantic, France and Poland were generally dry over the last week. Northern Germany saw 10mm and the EU Black Sea countries saw heavier falls, both Romania and Bulgaria picking up 20mm to 50mm, as did central Ukraine.
The week ahead shows France remaining dry and scattered light showers across Germany and Poland.
Temperatures in France are now pushing into the mid to high 20s as the wheat crop is filling. Combine this with the continued mostly dry weather, and the dry forecast, and one would expect to see the current condition rating for the French soft wheat crop, which is currently an optimistic 80% G/E, start to decline. EU durum was rated at 71% G/E last week.
Meanwhile Russia continues to have a dream run. The last 7 days seeing 10-20mm across much of the central districts to the NW and heavier falls across the black soil region at the base of the Volga Valley and around the Black Sea. Turkey is also seeing much of this heavier rain too.
The 7 days forecast for Russia has more rain penciled in, falls of 15-30mm common and the spring wheat region could see heavier falls of 25-50mm.
China saw heavy rain across their winter wheat regions last week, but conditions should remain mostly dry for that region and, the sorghum region, this week.
